                     1. Check for danger, response, airway, breathing and circulation.

           2. Try to wear gloves to protect you from the casualty’s blood.

 3. Expose the wound and elevate the area.

 4. Apply an appropriately sized first aid dressing over the wound. If there is an object in the wound do not remove it but pack around it.

 5. Secure the dressing still applying pressure. If blood continues to seep  through,   remove both dressings, relocate wound and apply a fresh dressing, ensuring pressure is applied to the point of bleeding.

 6. Observe for signs of Hypovolaemia shock and treat if necessary.

 7. Tourniquets should not be used.

Remember, pinch the soft part of the nose and get the casualty to lean forward.

Hopefully they will work it out for themselves but the casualty must breath through their mouth whilst pressure is applied.

Avoid the tempation to keep checking and hold the pressure on for a few minutes, if the nose keeps bleeding after 10 minutes seek medical advice.
