On the wonderfully choosen date of 1 April, the HSE confirmed the details of the forthcoming changes to the structure of workplace first aid training.

Course titles, content and duration has been confirmed as outlined here, but further information has been released on the employer's assessments and the "watersheds" between courses.

Basically if your workplace is low risk, such as an office, shop or library the need is:

less than 50- at least one Appointed Person

50-100- at least one First Aider [Emergency First Aid at Work]

more than 100- at least one First Aider [First Aid at Work] per 100 or part thereof

For higher risk environments, assembly work, engineering, construction etc the need is:

less than 5- at least one Appointed Person

5-100- at least one First Aider [EFAW or FAAW] per 50 or part thereof

more than 100- at least one First Aider [First Aid at Work] per 50or part thereof

The above is not definitive, consideration of previous history of injuries or illness, shifts, distance from emergency medical services and similar factors must be made.

At Emergency Response Training we appreciate the need to plan your training in advance and have therefore already set up courses to meet the above requirements. Whilst our website is being updated, call our office on 0870 740 9247 or email us at info@ertuk.co.uk for further details.
